Mind is like a lake. If there are lots of thoughts racing then the mind becomes like a lake with choppy waves. It becomes hard to navigate our body when the mind is turbulent. A calm mind is like a serene lake reflecting its beautiful surroundings. When our mind is calm we walk peacefully.
The National Science Foundation says we have 50,000 thoughts per day. About 98% are past, future and repetitive thoughts. We are very rarely in the present moment.
Always craving for some other place to be, reminiscing about the past, predicting the future keeps the mind active and the nervous system going towards burn out. Meditation and yoga make us aware of our thoughts so we can delete the "junk" thoughts and experience a mind like a serene lake reflecting our true nature.
