Set Your Gaze
Wherever you send your awareness, there is greater circulation and presence. So, gaze from the back of your eyes to the sun in your heart. Pay attention to the backs of your eyes and then look inwardly to your heart; you may feel a corresponding somatic sensation. When you gaze into the heart’s center, it facilitates a more loving, more devoted, and more open feeling.
Receive and Surrender
Imagine every movement, breath, and pause as an act of devotion to yourself and to something greater than yourself. This rhythmic sequence is the physical and energetic act of receiving and surrendering. Before you begin, take a moment to dedicate your practice to something or someone. Take in the blessings and return them back into the Universe.
Dedicate Your Practice
What do you feel when you move through Sun Salutations? The sun can offer us circulation, growth, and evolution. You can start to embody the qualities of the sun, such as the feelings of radiance, vitality, humble confidence, luminosity, clarity, empowerment, or fearlessness. Or it can be an emotion, such as compassion or tenderness. Focus on one or two feelings that you experience during Sun A and watch it grow as you move and breathe.By Jamie Lynn Fong
