The Art of Meditation

with James Keller

In this 90 minute class, James will introduce you to the practice of Vedic Meditation. He will teach you a simple, natural, effortless technique that produces a deep state of rest. Meditation has been shown to produce a wide range of benefits. In the late sixties and early seventies, hundreds of studies were done on meditation at Harvard and Stanford University. It was shown that meditation produces a state of deep rest that is three times as deep as your deepest sleep, and yet you are awake inside. Regular meditation was demonstrated to produce profound benefits such as stress reduction, improved health, better social relationships, improved memory, and a greater sense of inner peace and well-being.

Vedic meditation is also very easy to do. In fact, it is totally effortless. It does not involve any kind of concentration, or even the ability to contemplate. There is no effort involved, and it is usually a very relaxing experience. Even a child can easily learn. It requires no special skills or talents of any kind. Anyone who can think a thought can meditate.

One of the biggest myths about meditation is that you need a relatively quiet mind to be able to meditate. This myth suggests that people who have busy minds with lots of thoughts will have a hard time learning. Nothing could be farther from the truth. It is not necessary to have a quiet mind to meditate. Literally anyone can do it successfully.

So let’s see. It is easy to do; It is pleasant and relaxing; It produces profound rest, releases stress, improves health, energy, vitality, concentration, job performance, memory, relationships, social behavior, the sense of inner well-being, and a whole host of other aspects of life. In fact there are hundreds of double blind studies done at Harvard and Stanford that clearly demonstrate all of these benefits. So why don’t more people do it? This remains one of the greatest mysteries of life!
