Join Master Teacher Bill Counter for an exploration of Ashtanga Yoga's Primary Series. The practice, also known as the First Series, is fast paced (traditionally 5 breaths per pose), extremely fun and very challenging for all levels. It's the original Vinyasa practice from Southern India and the core of all the other currently popular flow practices.
If you're new to Ashtanga (or to yoga!) there will be lots of suggestions for use of props, ways to modify the poses, and alternate variations offered to work toward the more complex portions of the practice. And there's always encouragement to cheat and skip things when necessary. With our two hour time slot we can occasionally stop to talk about basic alignment issues or explore more challenging aspects of the work in greater detail.
The Primary Series (one of 6 sets of poses in the Ashtanga system) offers a fine selection of interesting poses to give you a balanced workout and dynamic transitions to help explore new skills. It's a template to take your practice to new levels of both physical capability as well as greater meditative awareness. Come with a smile, a willingness to expand your practice and a desire to have two hours of fun.
