This offering is for students and yoga teachers who want to learn about this powerful practice. The first weekend is open to all - learn about and experience the benefits of Yin Yoga. The second weekend layers in the details necessary for those teachers seeking certification in teaching Yin Yoga.

Yin Yoga is a quiet style of yoga that specifically targets the fascia of the body. This consists of connective tissue, ligaments, tendons and joint capsules. Gently stressing the tissues in this passive way contributes to their health by stimulating and activating the cells through rehydration and re-stimulating synovial fluid production. From an energetic perspective, the sequences of poses can target specific Chinese meridians in the body to support and enhance emotional balance. Because of its inherent stillness, the mind and breath are encouraged to slow down, providing opportunities for reflection and meditation.

First Immersion Weekend, participants will learn:

  1. What is Yin Yoga? Define Yin Yoga practice as it compares to Yang yoga practices, and the relativity of yin and yang

  2. What are the principles of Yin Yoga? Understand the origins of Yin yoga in Chinese Meridian Theory

  3. The differences between Yin and Restorative Yoga

  4. How to prepare for Yin Yoga, when to practice Yin Yoga

  5. Physical, mental and emotional benefits of Yin Yoga

  6. Experience the practice

Second Immersion Weekend:

  1. Yin Yoga is not just a “slowed-down” yang class

  2. Teaching Yin, preparing the space, setting your intention

  3. Sequencing by Meridian

  4. Sequencing by Theme

  5. Yin Poses

  6. Modifications/propping

  7. Yin at the wall

  8. Importance of integration and counterposes

  9. Contraindications and why

  10. Practice teaching

This immersion is appropriate for serious yoga students and yoga teachers who would like to deepen their knowledge of Yin yoga, and learn how to modify the Yin postures for their own personal practice. In the 2nd weekend, Yoga teachers will also learn the"how's" and "why's" of teaching Yin Yoga, and the art of properly propping and modifying the postures for their students.

RYTs who attend both weekends will receive 20 CEUs toward their registration renewal with the Yoga Alliance. RYTs who attend both weekends and successfully complete additional student-teaching hours and homework will be certified by Althea to teach Yin Yoga classes.

Both weekends are REQUIRED for those who are part of Althea's Yoga Therapy Training and Certification, which begins July, 2020.
